Srinagar: J&K Peoples Conference senior leader and former legislator, Mohammad Khurshid Alam, today said that ever since the removal of special status and downgrading of J&K into a Union Territory, there has been a widening wedge between the government of and general masses in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The governance in Jammu and Kashmir has become a one-way street and unilateral decision making has become this dispensation’s hallmark. Contrary to what was claimed by the central government at the time of removing article 370, the situation on ground has only worsened and the connect between the government and the people has vanished,” Alam said.

While stressing on the need for government of the day to take certain Confidence Building Measures to lessen the anxiety and build much-needed trust amongst the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Alam said that the government must understand that only result-oriented engagement can instill a sense of stability among the people and take J&K out of the prevalent crises.

“The state is reeling under severe administrative inertia with no traces of any democratic set up in the functioning of the government. The non-local bureaucrats are running the show while those elected in the recent past including even the recently elected DDCs are being pushed to the wall. The government of the day must honor the commitments it has made to not just the people of J&K but to the people of the country as well,” he added.
