Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday stated that only the National Conference has the ability to reclaim Jammu and Kashmir from the throes of political and economic crises it finds itself in.

The meeting expressed unison with the victims of the flash flood in Kishtwar, Kangan, Ganderbal, and Kupwara. “We share the grief of those whose loved ones were devoured in Kishtwar,” the functionaries said and prayed for peace to them in the hereafter.

On the occasion, the functionaries impressed upon the incumbent LG administration to work out an adequate compensation of the affected. The functionaries also sought restoration of road connectivity and other basic public services in the flash flood-ravaged regions.

Nasir said this while addressing a provincial meeting convened by him to review the status of the ongoing membership drive in Kashmir province. The meeting was attended by zone presidents, district presidents and district secretaries, who during the breadth of the meeting gave their estimation of the ongoing membership drive to the provincial president. Interacting with the concerned office party bearers, district presidents, secretaries and other parent body and YNC functionaries, Nasir said the annual membership drive had received a luke-warm response due to the worst ever public health crisis that hit the world in the shape of Covid-19, and J&K being no exception to it was equally impacted by it.

“The process had picked up beyond our expectations but soon it hit a roadblock due to the major public health crises and its resultant impact on Jammu and Kashmir. Fortunately, as the situation started improving, the process has again picked up. It is gratifying to see young educated youth especially women join the party fold. Membership drive is a recurring process that infuses that party with blood of life and helps in its furtherance. We are at a tipping point of history, where it is imperative for us to work in tandem to salvage the entire region and its people from plummeting into the deep chasm of uncertainty, economic crises and political instability,” he said.

NC, Nasir said, believes in an inclusive and prosperous J&K that does not discriminate on the basis of religion, gender, caste, class, race, ethnicity, language, region or creed.  He further said the principles envisaged by Sher e Kashmir helped us unite as a people.

While expressing satisfaction over the ongoing process of membership drive, Nasir said the party can only advance its cause determinately if it works as a whole unitedly. The road ahead of us is rough. We have to keep up with our fight for the restoration of our infringed rights and on another front we have to ensure the well-being of our people. Ours is the party that defines the soul of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

On the occasion, the party functionaries expressed sympathies with the cloudburst and flash flood-affected people in Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, and Kargil areas. The functionaries also impressed upon the government to work out compensation for the affected on priority basis.
