Srinagar: A woman from Batamaloo area of the city Saturday staged a solo protest here today to press for the release of her husband who remains incarcerated in Udhampur jail.

Holding a two-years-old daughter in her arms, a woman, who introduced herself as Saba from Batamaloo, this afternoon appeared at Srinagar’s Press Enclave, beseeching the LG that her husband be set free, or at least he be brought to the Srinagar Central Jail from Udhampur.

“My condition has become worse than a beggar, my infant daughter is ill and I don’t have money for her treatment. I appeal to the Governor administration to have pity on me and my daughter and release my husband on humanitarian grounds,” she added.

She also alleged that as soon as her husband, whom she identified as Irfan Ahmad Mir of Tral Pulwama, was arrested some three years ago, her in-laws started torturing her and finally kicked her out of their home.

She alleged that even her own relatives have deserted her and it is only some neighbors who are helping her. “I don’t have any source of income. I don’t have the money so that I could go to meet my husband in Udhampur jail. I humbly request the administration to either release my husband or shift him to Srinagar Central Jail,” she added.
