NC remembers Madre Meharban on her 21st death anniversary

Commemorative functions held across Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President, Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah on Sunday led party functionaries in offering floral tributes and Fatiha at the final resting place of Madar-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah at Quaid Mazar, Naseem Bagh Hazratbal.

Among others Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Senior leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Chaudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Mubarak Gul, Mir Saifullah, Shameema Firdous, Irfan Shah, Nazir Gurezi, Ali Mohammad Dar, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri, Muhammad Syed Akhoon, Syed Tauqeer, Dr. Sajad Shafi Uri, Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi, Qaisar Jamsheed Lone, Peer Afaq Ahmed, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, Ghulam Mohi Ud Din Mir, Ghulam Rasool Naaz, Showkat Hussain Ganaie, Abdul Ahad Dar, Muhammad Khalil Bandh, Tanvir Sadiq, Adv. Showkat Ahmed Mir, Imran Nabi Dar, Salman Ali Sagar, Manzoor Ahmed Wani, Farooq Ahmed Shah, Sheikh Muhammad Rafi, Reyaz Bedar, Syed Rafiq Shah, Safdar Khan, Salam Ud Din Bajad, Er. Sabiya Qadri, Muhammad Yaqoob Wani, Ahsan Pardesi, Younis Mubarak Gul, Mudassar Shahmiri offered floral tributes and Fatiha Khawani at the final resting place of Madre Maharban. The event was also marked by Quran Khwani.

The functionaries recalled the contribution of Madre Meharban on the occasion stating that she donned various roles during her life span not just holding the party flag high but also giving trajectory to the strength of party workers at a time when Sher-e-Kashmir was serving confinement.  

The leaders said that Madre Meharban not only played a key role in overthrowing the York of feudalism out of JK but also worked ceaselessly for poor and deprived sections of the society until her last breath.  Calling her a paragon of sacrifice, the leaders said any reference to JK’s struggle for the restoration of its rights pre and post 47 cannot be complete without her mention. 

“Even today the public memory is replete with the enormous incidents of her unfathomable heroism, bottomless compassion and unparalleled self-sacrifice. Her doyen role in carving selfhood and identity for people of J&K is tremendous. Her legacy remains to remind all of us of our duties towards our people and the party. The biggest tribute to her on her anniversary will be to renew our commitment to the ideals of Sher-e-Kashmir, and Madre Meharban,” the leaders said.

On the occasion, Dr Farooq Abdullah expressed gratitude to workers, delegates, party’s parent body, YNC, Women’s Wing and Minority cell functionaries for making it a point to be present on the occasion to pay homage to Madre Meharban.

Similar commemorative functions were held at all district headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh where party functionaries paid homage to Madre Meharban on her 21st death anniversary.
