Srinagar: “Three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Saturday,” Kashmir’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) said.

“Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Kwarigam, Ranipora area of the south Kashmir district following inputs about the presence of terrorists there,” he said.

“While the forces were conducting searches in the area the terrorists fired upon them. The forces retaliated leading to an exchange of fire in which three terrorists were killed,” the official said.

The IGP said that “all three slain terrorists were affiliated to Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit and one of them identified as Arif Hajam, was involved in the killing of the soldier Manzoor Beigh of 162 Territorial Army on June 06, 2019 while he was on leave.” Arif is a resident of Sadoora, Anantnag.

The other two were identified as Basit Ahmad from Telwani, Anantnag and Suhail Ahmad from Pulwama

Police requested the people to stay away from the encounter site till the area is sanitized.

Today’s encounter was six in a row in south Kashmir in the past 11 days.
