2 militant associates arrested in Budgam, Baramulla: Police

Srinagar, Jul 08: Police on Thursday claimed arresting two “militant associates” in separate operation in Magam area of Budgam and Sopore area of Baramulla distrct.

A police spokesman said that police had established a checkpoint at Archandarhama Magam near railway crossing and noticed a suspicious person who was carrying a bag.

“When the naka party tried to stop him for checking, the said person started to run away, but was apprehended,” the spokesman said.

He identified the arrested person as Danish Ahmed Dar, a resident of Check-Sari Singhpora, Pattan.

The spokesman said during the search, 1.2 kilograms of explosive substance and two electronic detonators were recovered from his bag.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested person was actually a militant associate who was providing “logistics and other material support” to the militants of LeT outfit in various areas of Budgam, police spokesman said.

In a separate operation, spokesman said on credible input regarding presence of militants in Ganai Mohalla Doabgah, Sopore, police along with 22 RR and 179Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area today late afternoon.

During search in the area, one hideout of proscribed Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was found in the basement of a single-storied house.

“Incriminating materials including huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the busted hideout. The hideout was destroyed on spot in presence of Executive Magistrate,” spokesman said.

He said one militant associate was also arrested.

All the recovered materials have been taken into custody for the purpose of investigation, police said, adding a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore and further investigation has been initiated in this regard.
