Secretary Tourism & Culture visits Kokernag

KOKERNAG (ANANTNAG): Secretary Tourism & Culture, Sarmad Hafeez, today visited picturesque Kokernag and threw open many tourist facilities for the convenience of the visitors.

Interacting with the locals and visitors, Sarmad Hafeez said the Government intends to promote Kokernag to its befitting prestige and historicity for which many initiatives have been planned.

The Tourism Secretary pointed out that as a matter of policy the Department has decided to expose lesser-known destinations to tourist visibility. He said destinations like Sonmarg, Yousmarg, Doodpathri etc. are already being brought in the visibility spectrum of tourists and events in Adventure, recreation and promotional areas shall be held soon at Kokernag also to make it equally attractive for tourists.

Sarmad Hafeez said the Government has also decided that cleanliness and sanitation shall be maintained at all the tourist destinations across Jammu & Kashmir. For this, he said, regular sanitation drives are being held at the tourist destinations besides conducting awareness camps for the locals and stakeholders equally for maintaining the ecology of tourist places for their upkeep.

Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Dr. G N Itoo, Director, Tourism, Jammu, Vivekanand Rai, CEO, Kokernag Development Authority and other senior officers besides members of local PRIs were present on the occasion.
