Srinagar: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan, today chaired a meeting to review the progress on execution of works for the establishment of Arun Jaitley Memorial Stadium (AJMS) at Hiranagar Kathua.

During the meeting, detailed discussions and deliberations were held on construction of this prestigious stadium besides other modalities related to acquisition and transfer of land for stadium were also discussed in the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Youth Services and Sports(YS&S), Alok Kumar; Development Commissioner Works J&K, Sami Arif; Director Finance YS&S, Latif Poswal; Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul; Special Assistant to Advisor, Wasim Raja; Executive Engineer, J&K Sports Council, Davinder Singh and other concerned officials of the department.

Speaking during the meeting, Advisor Khan delved upon the officers that this is an important and prestigious project and it should be completed within the given timelines.

The Advisor impressed upon them that the project should be built as per international standards with environment friendly technologies and should have all the facilities including residential quarters for players and staff.

Advisor Khan asked the officials that while executing various works of this project, the cultural heritage of the place should also be highlighted so that more people are made aware about the historical significance of the region.

The Advisor further asked the officers that all modalities should be completed on time as the stadium in coming days will be subsequently developed into a mega sports complex with facilities for many indoor and outdoor sports.

Advisor Khan also directed the Secretary Sports Council to immediately start work on water sports centre at Basholi, for which land has been already identified. He further asked the Secretary Sports Council to identify land in Srinagar or adjoining districts for development of Khel Gaon type facilities in Kashmir on the pattern of Nagrota Khel Gaon of Jammu region.

The Advisor underlined that the government is committed towards developing a comprehensive and competitive sports culture in both Jammu and Kashmir provinces so as to bring the UT on the map of National Sports arena.

During the meeting, the consultant hired for the project gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation regarding various aspects of the project.
