Shopkeeper shot dead in Habbakadal
Srinagar: A civilian was shot dead by suspected militants in the Habbakadal locality of the city here on Wednesday evening, police said.
The victim, 25-year-old Umer Nazir Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, resident of Kelashpora Habakadal, was shot at inside his shop at Main Chowk Habbakadal, police said.
He received gunshot injuries to the chest in the attack and was rushed to the SMHS Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, local news agencies reported.
Police said security forces have cordoned the area off, and a hunt was launched to nab the attackers, while a case has been registered and investigations started.
The killing of the shopkeeper comes a day after militants shot dead a police officer in Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Meanwhile, in a statement here, IGP Kashmir said that “these innocent killings of civilian and local policemen are being committed by local militants of LeT (self claimed as TRF) on the instruction of one Abbas Sheikh.”
