Major success for Police, Security forces as trio were involved in recent Sopore killings: IGP Kashmir

Sopore: Three militants including a a top local Lashkar-e-Toiba commander and a top foreign militant were killed in an overnight gunfight at Gund Brath village of Sopore area in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Monday.

The gunfight started late last night at Gund Brath area of Sopore and culminated with the killing three LeT militants, one of them a foreigner, a police official said.

The police official said,” Top LeT (militant) Mudasir Pandith was involved in the killing three policemen, two councillors and two civilians recently was among those killed.”

Mudasir Pandith, he said was also involved in other militancy related incidents, the top police officer of Kashmir added.

The foreign militant identified as Asrar @ Abdullah a resident of Pakistan was active since 2018 in North Kashmir was also killed, IGP Kashmir tweeted, terming the killing as a big success for police and security forces, he said.

Adding, General public of Sopore area will get respite from militant incidents and recruitment of new youths into militancy,”IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said.

The gunfight had started after police, army and CRPF launched joint cordon and search operation in the area following specific information about the presence militants.
