Srinagar: Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday said it has caught a Junior Engineer of the Rural Development Department in Poonch red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 12,000.
Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a press release said it has received a complaint alleging that Mohammad Rahid Malik, presently posted as Junior Engineer in Block Sathra, Poonch, demanded a bribe of Rs 12000 for releasing payment for construction of drain in favour of complainant and five other NREGA card holders.
The complainant alleged that they had approached Block Development Officer and Assistant Commissioner Development, Poonch, for redressal of complaint, but no action was taken by them.
ACB said after registering a case, its sleuths laid a successful trap and caught the JE, Malik alias Jannu, son of Mohammad Sajjad Malik of Mandi Kalani, Tehsil Mandi, Poonch, red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The bribe amount of Rs 6000 was also recovered and he was arrested and taken into custody by ACB. Searches were also conducted in the premises of the accused, ACB said, adding further investigation is in progress.
