Quran- the holy book- has been translated in nearly all languages of the world and this work is always done by great scholars who not only posses necessary qualifications and mastery over the languages but also have a scholarly view of the essence of the text. It isn’t a simple translation as the book demands great deal of knowledge of the faith, its historiography, the Hadith (sayings of the prophet), Fiqah (Islamic jurisprudence) etc. Mufti Sahb was also oone such gifted scholars who could translate Quran from Arabic to Gojri language and became the first person to do so in this particular language enabling the gujjar populations to learn and understand the holy Quran in their mother tongue.

Mufti Shahab was not only a good translator, but an author too. He authored several booklets including Siraj- um- Muneera, Akham-e- Mayyat and Namaz kae masayil quran-o- hadees ki Roshni mei. Besides these works he was also a good Islamic orator whose dialect was powerful and motivational. He would often be invited to give sermons in various religious schools and Dar-ul-Ulooms across Jammu and Kashmir and outside as well.

Mufti Sahb was also a Hafiz-e- Quran and had acquired specialization in the ‘qirat’ (Quranic oratory). He also served as the Chief-mufti and patron of the Jamia Maariful Quran. His passing away on 1st June 2021 left a void which cannot be filled. This is a big loss not only for the people of Jammu and Kashmir but for all the Muslims around the world and this loss is irreparable. May Allah SWT except His noble work and bless his noble soul (Ameen).
