PDP, PC, Muzaffar Baig pay tributes to Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq, Abdul Gani Lone

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday paid tributes to Late Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone on their martyrdom anniversary, describing them as the torchbearers of the State’s struggle for political and social justice.

In a statement issued here, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti lauded the role of Mirwaiz and Lone in the peaceful struggle for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

“Both these leaders have played a critical role in the struggle for mitigation of the political, economic and social problems of the people of Jammu & Kashmir,” she said.

Paying rich tributes to the deceased leaders, Mehbooba said the political turmoil in the State has given us thousands of wounds that would take years to heal.

“The best tribute to these leaders would be the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue. If alive, both Mirwaiz and Lone could have contributed further towards political and social upliftment of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.

PDP Vice President A R Veeri, General Secretaries Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura, Dr Mehboob Beg, Nizamuddin Bhat and senior leader Naeem Akhtar have also paid rich tributes to late Mirwaiz and Lone on their martyrdom anniversary.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) on Thursday paid rich tributes to its founder Abdul Gani Lone and Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq on their martyrdom anniversary.

“In view of the ongoing pandemic, a commemorative meeting via the virtual mode of the PC leadership took place in which tributes were paid to Abdul Gani Lone on his 19th martyrdom anniversary and Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq on his 31st martyrdom anniversary,” reads a statement issued by PC.

Paying tributes to its founder Abdul Gani Lone, PC stated that the sacrifices rendered by him will become the torch bearer for the future generations of Kashmir who strive for the lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and in south Asia.

The leaders noted that Abdul Gani Lone will be remembered for his political astuteness, acumen and farsighted approach vis-à-vis finding a lasting solution to the vexed issue like Kashmir.

“His assassination exemplifies the pain and agony of the people of Kashmir and how the nefarious miscreants are out there to tarnish the hopes of peace and stability in the region for their own vested interests.”

The leaders further resolved to continue to tread the path shown by its founder and will never be deterred to pursue its agenda of peace, tranquility and stability of Jammu and Kashmir.

Terming Late Mirwaiz as a pious, noble and honest soul, the party observed that the immense contributions of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq will be remembered for times to come and that he contributed greatly in serving the cause of Islam, education and public service in Kashmir.

The statement further added that “both Abdul Gani Lone and Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq remind us of a golden era of politics where moderate politics and intellectualism were the defining attributes of leadership.”

Besides PC Chairman Sajad Lone, the leaders who attended the meeting via the virtual mode include Abdul Gani Vakil, Imran Ansari, Syed Basharat Bukhari, Mansoor Hussain Soharwardy, Bashir Ahmad Dar, Abid Hussain Ansari, Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Raja Aijaz Ali, Mohammad Abbas Wani, Mohammad Ashraf Mir and Irfan Panditpori,

Meanwhile, former deputy chief minister and Peoples Conference (PC) senior leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig Thursday paid rich tributes to Late Abdul Gani Lone, observing that 19 years ago, on this day, Kashmir lost a seer and an earnest political leader.

In a statement issued here, the PC leader termed Late Lone as one of the few world leaders who never used to substitute words for actions and never sought the path of comfort for himself.

He added that Late Abdul Gani Lone will continue to inspire the generations to come and his teachings will give us a temper of will, quality of imagination, a vigour of emotions and a freshness of deep springs of life.

“The reason for such deep respect from the people of Kashmir for Lone is because of the fact that his key priorities as the veteran leader remained preventing conflict and promoting democracy,” he said.

He said that Lone sahib’s dream was to make Jammu and Kashmir a place where individual rights are respected, differences channelled politically and resolved peacefully.

Baig also paid homage to Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and highlighted his role in upliftment of society and making strenuous efforts for everlasting peace and tranquility in Jammu and Kashmir.  “May the soul of both the leaders rest in peace,” said the party leader.
