Mothers are selfless, shower unconditional love on their children, and sacrifice all their needs for their families. Starting from feeding us to teaching us manners, our mothers do it all. On this day, people express their love, respect, honour and gratitude for their mothers. So while this Mother’s Day will also be spent amid lockdown, let us make it special for her in whichever way we can!All mothers want the best for their children, and every mother faces unique challenges and joys when it comes to raising them.

For mothers of children with disabilities, whether a child is born with a disability or it is a result of an illness or accident, motherhood often involves reframing expectations, learning how to advocate and care for their child, and prioritizing self-care so they can be healthy and present for their child’s unique needs. Motherhood looks and feels differently for mothers of children with disabilities. They also often face judgment and lack of understanding from others, embracing the reality that their child looks or acts differently than other kids, and the challenge of finding and accessing resources that empower the whole family to have the highest quality of life possible.

It’s one of the hardest jobs in the world. For those looking after a disabled child, care is a grueling 24/7 reality. Yet they don’t want sainthood, just a secure future for their child. “A mother is a mother, irrespective of what kids are, “She never describe the feelings and emotions she experienced with the disabled child’s birth yet abrupt disturbance strikes their emotional balance. Having a disabled child brings great suffering, but a mother never feels unhappy, nor show feelings of disbelief and hopelessness.  Despite experiencing a difficult situation, she wishes to continue being the mother of a disabled child. She perceives herself as needing to live through a period of grief to be able to overcome the loss of the ideal infant and, by doing so, accept the disabled child.
