Secy Law chairs meeting of Litigation reforms & effective monitoring of Litigation in JK

JAMMU: Secretary, Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, Achal Sethi today took a meeting of all the Law Officers posted in the Civil Secretariat along with the legal team of different Organisations/Officers and Corporations regarding Litigation reforms and effective monitoring of Litigation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Recently, the Administrative Council has approved the proposal of the Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs for introducing litigation reforms in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Law Secretary apprised the officers that in deference of the decision to the Administrative Council, Law Department has issued various orders which are available on the web site of the department, wherein roles and responsibilities of the Law Officers posted in different departments, Advocates (Government Counsels, Director Litigation Jammu/Kashmir and also appointment of officer in charge (Litigation) in every department have elaborately been prescribed for handling government Litigations. The Government orders were circulated to all the law officers for strict compliance.

Law Secretary addressed the importance of Litigation reforms and suggested various measures which can contribute to the improvement of litigation monitoring system.

The Law Secretary also apprised the officers about introduction of web based platform, which has been floated by the department for effective monitoring of cases at different stages.

In his concluding remarks Law Secretary appreciated the efforts put by the law Officers in safeguarding the interest of government in pending Litigation and beseeched upon them to further contribute to the effective management of litigation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, so that cases are defended properly and decided in time-bound manner.

Among others, senior officers of the Law department besides Law officers posted in various departments were also present in the meeting.
