Mushroom cultivation training program hosted at SKUAST-J

JAMMU: A two-day training programme on mushroom cultivation was organised here at Mushroom Unit, SKUAST-J under the guidance of Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The training programme was held for the SC population in collaboration with KVK Jammu, under the SC sub-plan of the All India Coordinated Mushroom Improvement Project. Dr. Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-J, who was the chief guest at the valedictory function stressed upon the farmers to diversify the types of mushrooms being cultivated and thus cultivate different types of mushroom round the year so that there is maximum and efficient utilization of resources.

The trainees were given hands-on training on various aspects of mushroom cultivation. To encourage the participants to take up mushroom cultivation as an enterprise, battery-operated spray pumps, polybags, quality spawn and chemicals were given as an incentive. The training programme was conducted by Dr. Sachin Gupta, Incharge Mushroom Unit while Dr. Rakesh Kumar gave practical demonstrations to the trainees.

The participants of the training programme expressed great satisfaction and hoped for realistic cooperation between the entrepreneurs and SKUAST-J for setting up new mushroom units in Jammu.
