Sentinels of Keran rescue youth from snowslide: Army spokesman

Srinagar: The Indian Army on Sunday evening said that Sentinels of Keran in district Kupwara rescued a man from the snowslide.

In a statement issued here, a defense spokesperson said: “At approx 1700h on 21 Mar 21, call was received from residents of Trehgam regarding trapping of one Adil  Karim Lone s/o Abdul Karim Lone in snow-slide between Patra and Melyal.”

“The panicked residents requested the assistance of the Army in locating and rescuing the missing individual. The Sentinels of Keran immediately swung into action and an ART with rescue equipment was launched,” he said.

The spokesperson further said: “After moving approximately 1.5Km in the snow conditions the team found the individual trapped under snow along with his vehicle.”

“The individual was pulled out and evacuated to Army Medical Facility at Pharkian wherein he was administered immediate lifesaving & stabilizing treatment. Thereafter the individual was evacuated by Civilian Ambulance to Govt Hospital Kupwara,” he said.

“The timely action by Army, Civil Authorities & trust reposed by civilians bore fruit as the individual could be rescued & tragedy was averted. The local population expressed their gratitude & the incident served to reinforce the bonds of trust & interdependence between the Awaam and the Army,” he added.
