Srinagar: Security forces have arrested two residents of Uttar Pradesh from Jawahar Tunnel area of Kulgam district following recovery of a pistol from their possession, officials said on Saturday.

Giving details, a police press release informed that police in Kulgam past night received specific information that “illegal arms and ammunition” was being transported in a Santro car (JK04-9750), which is coming from Banihal towards Qazigund.

A joint checkpoint was established near Jawahar Tunnel by police along with the troops of 9RR and 24Bn of CRPF and the said car was intercepted.

Two persons identified as Mohammad Danish Sidiqi, son of Shamshad Ahmad; and Mohammad Nawshad Nayi, son of Mohammad Yunus, both residents of Bijnoor Uttar Pradesh, who were travelling the said car were frisked and a pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition were recovered from their possession, the police statement said.

Both the accused were arrested and the car they were travelling in was also seized, police said, adding a case (FIR no. 40/2021) under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Qazigund and further investigation is in progress.
