New Delhi/Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Member of Parliament from Anantnag Justice (retd) Hassnain Masoodi on Friday decried the intimidation of tribal community by Administration saying such unwarranted acts are unheard of in an emancipated world.

Masoodi said: “the Gujjar Basti dwellers located around Galender Pampore were being unduly harassed and intimidated by the administration, saying the otherwise socially, economically and educationally excluded  groups  have already been left unattended to by the government and that dislodging them from their centuries old hutments tantamount to double discrimination,” Masoodi said.

“The poor lot of people has been left to their own fate by the successive governments since 2015; nothing substantial has been done to assuage their miseries by the successive government’s post 2015.  The discriminatory attitude of the administration towards the tribal community of Jammu and Kashmir has seen a steady increase since 2015. Being ignored from every sphere of development, the community is now being subjected to added predicaments by the administration on different accounts,” he said.

“The poor community lives hand to mouth; let alone providing them basic facilities, the administration is extricating them from their humble dwellings and unduly interfering in their day to day lives on one account or the other.  The undue interference by the administration in their day to day lives has compounded their problems by leaps and bounds,” he added.

According to the NC spokesperson, Masoodi had a telephonic conversation with Div Com Kashmir. “He impressed upon him to ensure that the community was not intimidated and the Div Com assured him early redressal of the issue.”
