“The batch numbers of counterfeit Sensodyne and Colgate toothpastes are being shared with the manufacturing and marketing companies of genuine toothpastes and steps are being taken to eradicate this menace from local markets,” he added.

He added that GlaxoSmithKline which is manufacturing genuine Sensodyne in India has cautioned consumers from buying such counterfeit toothpastes and has warned about the quality of the counterfeit toothpastes being sold in the name of their company.

“Consumers are advised to remain careful while buying such products which look very identical to the genuine products, thereby making it difficult for a consumer to make distinction between genuine product and its counterfeit,” Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Department Mudasir Rashid said.

Through your newspaper, we inform all the customers of oral products that the counterfeit toothpastes are imported and they do not bear the name and address of the importer and maximum retail price. “In case any such product comes into notice of a consumer, they should contact the Department to share the information.”
