Agri Deptt Kashmir to implement DBT in all departmental schemes

SRINAGAR: To ensure financial empowerment of the farmer community and cent percent transparency, the Department of Agriculture is all set to implement Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in different Agricultural schemes under implementation of the department.

This was stated by Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal in a meeting convened here to discuss Direct Benefit Transfer among the beneficiaries of various schemes.

It was given out that the introduction of the DBT system will prove to be a positive shift from an old and orthodox system to a multi dimensional online system that will envisage a transparent and accountable system in the agriculture sector.

The Director impressed upon the officers to chalk out the modalities for effecting DBT/ digitalization in most of the schemes as per the vision of the Prime Minister for a digital India.

On the occasion Director said the aim of introducing DBT scheme is reforming the Government delivery system by modifying the procedures in welfare schemes for accurate targeting of beneficiaries, bring in transparency in flow of information and funds.

Earlier the Director Agriculture reviewed the functioning of the Technical committee set for purchase of seeds for Kharif 2021. It was emphasized that quality seeds with high yield potential need to be made available to the farmers.

Director was apprised that the farmers will be given the choice of purchasing seeds as per the guidelines of the scheme and the subsidy amount of the same will be credited to their accounts through DBT.

It was also informed that the hybrid seeds required for raising them in Hi-tech Poly houses have been identified by the technical committee after analyzing their various traits and yield thereof.

The meeting was attended by Joint Director Apiculture and Mushrooms Farooq Ahmad Shah, Joint Director Agriculture Extension Kashmir, Mohammad Muzaffer Hurra, Joint Director Marketing/ Post Harvest Management Infrastructure and Farm Machinery Kashmir Amir Ud Din Andrabi, Joint Director Farms, Spices, Medicinal Plant, Procurement Mandis Kashmir Kaunsar Parveen, Joint Director Agriculture Seeds/Pesticides and Fertilizers Kashmir Mohammad Iqbal Khan and other senior officers of the Department.
