Sopore cyclist travels from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 27 days

Sopore: Passing through 11 states, a youth from north Kashmir’s Sopore town has completed his journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari on a bicycle in 27 days.

Manan Hassan Wani, who hails from Sopore area of Baramulla district, started his journey on January 01 with an aim to start year 2021 on an encouraging note as the past year (2020) had ragged entire world with lot of hardships in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

“It took me two years to plan this journey and was finalised in December 2020. I covered the journey in 27 days from 1st of January to 27 January. I got help and necessary suggestions from Sameer Ahmad, who has already travelled on bike from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” news agency KNS quoted Wani as saying.

He said that he travelled through 11 states which actually took him 24 days — he had spent three days at Delhi taking rest.

On being asked about support from administration, he said that the whole journey was self-sponsored – with the only help coming in from Sameer Ahmad, who besides guiding him in this journey also supported him financially.

“I travelled on a broken cycle, which resulted in a lot of hardships during this journey as the cycle got punctured several times, rim was broken and chain snapped a couple of times,” he said.

Asked if he had any message for the young people, he said: “I haven’t done anything great; but I wouild only say that ‘if you have any passion, go for it irrespective of hindrances and hardships because real meaning of passion is in your hard work and dedication’.”
