Militant arrested in Bandipora: Police

Srinagar:  Police on Thursday said it has arrested an active militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit from Patushahi area of Bandipora and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.

Police spokesman said that based on credible information regarding movement of militants from Sopore to Bandipora, a joint special checkpoint was established by police along with security forces at Patushahi Bandipora. During checking, one active militant identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan, son of Fayaz Ahmad Khan, resident of Panzigam Bandipora, was arrested.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. As per police records he was linked with proscribed outfit JeM,” spokesman said.

He said preliminary enquiry reveals that Khan had joined the militant ranks recently and was tasked to carry out subversive activities in Sopore and Bandipora towns.

Police spokesman also said that the militant has managed to escape from a cordon and search operation at Adipora area of Sopore on January 26.

A case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated, spokesman said.
