As a seeker, Guru Gobind Singh ji was closest to god, part of godliness and as a warrior, the one who represented god in the battle to defend humanity. Whenever Guru Gobind Singh ji set out on a journey, it was meant to give respect and dignity to the people he so deeply loved, said the Lt Governor.

The Lt Governor urged people to cultivate the spirit of dedication, kindness and valour epitomized by the great Guru to create a harmonious society.

“Guru Gobind Singh ji had abundant love of god and his energy. That’s why I believe some people call him ‘Tenth Guru’ and some say, ‘Tenth Light.’ He enriched and enlightened people around him with the simple word of surrendering to the Guru and immense and unconditional love”, said the Lt Governor.

The Lt Governor observed that the young generation needs to be told that the truth cannot be attained by following some principle but it can be attained only by total surrender. And, in surrender for the first time, you get a glimpse of your true self, of true love for existence, he added.

Speaking on the communal bond and harmony in J&K, the Lt Governor also hailed the contribution of all religions in making J&K a prosperous UT. He also acknowledged the contribution of Sikh community towards public welfare, social service, nation building and economy of J&K.

The Government of J&K is making dedicated efforts and is working on creating an institutional mechanism for encouraging and promoting the Punjabi language in the UT, said the Lt Governor.

On the same lines, a major step was taken in the form of establishment of Guru Nanak Chair in University of Jammu. The establishment of the Chair will not only help in furtherance of research on his teachings but also help in keeping the harmony and equity in the society, the Lt Governor observed.

Mahant Manjeet Singh; Advisor to the Lt Governor, Farooq Khan; DGP, Dilbag Singh; Chairman J&K Gurdwara Parbandhak Board & former MLC, TS Wazir; General Secretary, DGPC, Fateh Singh, besides scores of prominent persons from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
