SMC initiates action against people for violating COVID-19 protocols

Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Friday imposed fines on hundreds of people in different areas of the city for not wearing face masks and violating social distancing rules at public places.

Led by Deputy Mayor Parvaiz Qadri, enforcement team while enforcing COVID-19 rules, fined hundreds of violators who were found roaming in marketplaces or travelling in cars and buses without wearing a face mask.

Talking to reporters, Qadri said the initiative was taken to ensure no one violates COVID-19 protocols. He said the drive against violators will be intensified in coming days.

Qadri said that all the Ward Officers in Srinagar have been directed to enforce COVID-19 rules in their areas and whosoever is found violating the same be fined on the spot. Pertinently Rs 200 have been fixed as fine for not wearing face masks.

“We have fined hundreds of violators in different parts of Srinagar since morning. Our enforcement teams have been deployed in every major marketplace in Srinagar. We appeal to the people to follow SOPs properly so as to avoid contracting deadly virus,” said Qadri.
