Forest deptt in collab with DLSA kick starts plantation drive under ‘Green J&K’ prog in B’la

Baramulla: In order to enhance the rich green cover for sustainable development and ecological balance, department of forest’s Jehlum Valley (JV) Forest Division in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Baramulla on Wednesday launched a massive plantation drive in various areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Chairman DLSA – Principal District and Sessions Judge Baramulla-Sanjay Parihar flanked by Secretary DLSA Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal ,DFO JV Division Parvaiz Ahmad Wani, District Information Officer Mudassir Hussain, DSP Headquarters Gulzar Ahmad kick started the plantation drive after planting Sanjay Parihar who planted Deodar and Conifer saplings in Govt Higher Secondary School Chandoosa, Iqbal Islamia Model High School Gantamulla, Islamia High School Boniyar and at landslide prone Katyawali village.

The drive was launched under the flagship programme “Green J&K Drive” which aims to enhance the green cover for sustainable and ecological balance of our environment.

After launching the drive, Sanjay Parihar while highlighting the objectives of the programme said that the drive was launched in landslide prone area because soil erosion in such landslide prone areas is prevented.

‘Such activities help to enhance the green cover of our environment besides restoring the natural glory. Similar drives shall be launched at other places of the district as a step forward to ensure the preservation of our environment,” he added.

Secretary DLSA Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal said that forests play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance besides urged upon various stakeholders to play an active part in this regard.

“It must be the duty of every conscious citizen to involve in this drive and plant more trees so that future generations could be saved from the disastrous consequences of the environmental degradation,” he added.

DFO JV Division Parviaz Ahmad Wani highlighted the significance of enhancing the forest cover and highlighted the importance of plantation for saving the environment from hazardous pollution caused by indiscriminate felling of trees and urged upon all stakeholders to actively participate in such programmes.

He also highlighted various flagship programmes sponsored by forest department and reiterated its commitment of providing ecologically sustainable environment to the people.

In Boniyar forest block, painting premises and periphery of educational institution Iqbal  Islamia Model High School  Gantamulla green Forest department block Boniyar Baramulla in collaboration with IIMHS  carried out  plantation drive.

People from cross section of society, Range Officer Boniyar Aijaz Ahmad Nagoo,  Principal IIMHS Naseer Ahmad Lone, Forester block Boniyar Bilal Ahmad, SHO Sheeri Sajad Ahmad,  Commandant BSF Ajay Kumar, Tanveer Ahmad Shah Rahbar- Janglat, teachers, students and some local dignitaries attended the drive and officials of forest department, students and staff participated in the plantation drive.

“The students, staff of all intuitions were involved in the plantation drive and we are highly grateful to forest department for supplying saplings of trees and also to help in the plantation,” said Principal Naseer Ahmad Lone.

During the plantation drive, around 40 saplings of deodar were planted to improve the aesthetics of school premises.
