Advisor Farooq Khan applauds YS&S Department for conducting activities amid Covid pandemic

JAMMU: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Ahmad Khan, applauded the role of Youth Services & Sports (YS&S) department for conducting multifarious activities amid Covid pandemic.

Advisor was addressing a review meeting held here today which was attended by Secretary, YS&S, Sarmad Hafeez; Director General, YS&S, Dr Salim-ur-Rehman, Special Assistant to Advisor, Waseem Raja and other officers of the department.

Advisor asked the department to devise full year calendar of activities to be held at winter and summer zones. He further asked them to provide the infrastructure like playing fields, courts, turfs to every district so that each of the activity can be held there. He further asked the officials to include games like Wrestling and Kabaddi in their activity schedules. He maintained that there is immense talent for such games among the youth especially from rural and tribal areas and asked for providing equal opportunities to both boys and girls in each of the activity carried by the department.

Advisor Khan asked the department to frame a calender for inspection of stores and other assets directing them for inclusion of senior officers of the department in such inspections so that they can also have first hand appraisal about the functioning of the department.

Advisor reviewed the arrangements being put in place for the upcoming winter games and asked the officials for every measure to make the sports carnival a grand success.

Advisor was informed that more than 5 lakh individuals including sports persons and students participated in the events organised by the department amid Covid pandemic.

Advisor Khan appreciated the department for organising the first ever trekking event in Jammu division which received an enthusiastic response from all the stakeholders.

The meeting was also informed that online training capsules have been arranged for the staff of the department besides organising orientation courses. Besides, several activities like inter-district competitions, cyclothons, Ski courses have also been accomplished by the department, the meeting was told further.
