Srinagar: Senior leader of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and former minister, Peerzada Mohammad Syed Saturday accused the administration of providing security to BJP and Apni Party candidates only and confining others to hotel rooms.

Addressing a press conference at PCC head office here, Peerzada said the government has miserably failed to provide security to the candidates for DDC polls.

He said although the people came out in large numbers to participate in the electoral process across Jammu and Kashmir, however the government failed to have adequate security arrangements on ground so that the elections are conducted in a smooth manner.

“Government has provided security to BJP and its allies including Apni Party, these parties enjoy all facilities while national and regional parties are confined to hotel rooms, our candidates are not allowed to come out of their homes. No proper arrangement of security is in place for voters who come out in large numbers to use their franchise,” Peerzada alleged.

“I am also a protected person falling in Z-category, but it’s unfortunate that I was told there is no security available for me at the moment. This is not the problem that the Congress party alone faces but there are other parties which also say so,” he said.

Peerzada also alleged that the higher-ups of Jammu and Kashmir Police do not respond to the calls of politicians who seek security for themselves.
