Forest Department to establish Herbal Park at Srinagar

SRINAGAR: : Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) J&K, today informed that the Urban Forestry Division (UFD),  of the department is going to establish Herbal Park at Boninar Hills about 1.5 km from Cheshmashahi, Srinagar.

The PCCF also visited the proposed site informing that the park shall come up during the current year. He said about a hundred different medicinal herb and shrub species will be raised in this Herbal Park for showcasing the natural medicinal wealth of the valley for education and awareness of the public, particularly the youth including school and college students.

He said that an existing track length of about one km shall be developed into a nature trail to facilitate access to the Herbal Park from the main road for the benefit of people especially nature lovers.

It was informed that an amount of Rs. 17.21 lakhs has been earmarked for the project during the current year from CAMPA funds.

The PCCF directed the Divisional Forest Officer UFD, Srinagar to pay proper attention to the layout/ design, keeping in mind the natural topography of the track.

The PCCF during the visit was accompanied by the Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir Conservators of Srinagar and South Circles, Chairman, National Society for Protection of Water resources, Wetland and Forests besides DFO and ROs.
