Expresses concern over steep rise in incidents of Asphyxiation

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday expressed profound grief over the death of a woman and her two minor daughters reportedly due to asphyxiation in Bonyar tehsil of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

While expressing his grief over the incident, MP Baramulla Mohammad Akbar Lone said, “The news of the loss of three precious lives has saddened me to core. I express my sympathies with the bereaved family and express my unison with them in their hour of grief. I also impress upon the administration to inquire into the incident to establish the reason behind the incident, which is believed to be a consequence of suffocation. Apparently there is a rise in the number of deaths due to Asphyxiation in Kashmir during winter months. Regrettably people do not use heating appliances with caution. I’m of the thought that administration has a role to play to ensure safety and security of people. The administration should utilize the platform of Mass Media to acquaint people about the hazards of using various heating appliances with negligence. Local dailies, TV and Radio could help achieve that end and ensure safety of citizenry,” he said.

He also appealed to the divisional and district administration to grant adequate ex gratia to the kith and kin of the deceased. He said that a proper awareness campaign on the usage of heating appliances was the need of hour, and that the divisional administration should immediately initiate a mass awareness campaign to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future.

Meanwhile Party’s Vice President North Zone Dr Sajad Shafi Uri has also expressed grief over the loss of three precious lives in the reported incident of Asphyxiation. He urged the administration to take necessary steps to ensure such incidents don’t take place in future.
