Div Com reviews enforcement measures to contain illegal extraction, construction along Tawi Bed

JAMMU: Divisional commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma today asked the Director Geology and Mining to submit Action Taken Report to stop/ prevent illegal mining of minor minerals from River Tawi Bed.

He passed the directions here at a meeting with concerned officers convened to review the implementation of Jammu and Kashmir High Court directions.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner JMC, Director Tourism, Director Urban Local Bodies, Director Geology and Mining, ADC Jammu, SP South Jammu, besides officers of Irrigation and flood control, JDA and other concerned.

Pertinent to mention that a multi member committee comprising officers of concerned departments has been constituted to prevent illegal mining from River Tawi. The officers are regularly conducting surprise inspections to keep check on the illegal mining.

The Committee members informed that slew of measures have been taken to check attempts of illegal mining. It was informed that the power connections of illegal stone crushers have been snapped and police have also seized various vehicles that indulge in illegal mining. The police officers informed that the personnel have also been deputed for  night patrolling to prevent illegal mining.

The Div Com asked Director Geology and Mining to submit a detailed Action taken report and ensure that no illegal mining of minerals is done in river Tawi.

The Div Com also directed the concerned officers to identify illegal constructions/ encroachments / on either side of River Tawi from Nagrota to Phalai Mandal. He asked for keeping constant check on containing illegal constructions, encroachments on the banks of the River Tawi.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Commissioner also reviewed the progress on beautification works in Bahu fort area and cable car project area.

The concerned officers apprised the Div Com about the works taken up for beautification of Bahu fort area and the progress made so far.

The Div Com asked Director Tourism, officers of JDA and JMC to submit action taken report in this regard at the earliest.
