Srinagar: After deferring the polls in wake of COVID-19 pandemic, the authorities have finally decided to hold the mayoral elections for Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on November 25.

According to a notification, issued by Secretary SMC under number SMC/CS/5027-5116, dated 19-11-2020, the polls will be conducted on November 25 while forms of nomination paper will be obtained from the office of the Secretary, SMC from 20th of November.

“In terms of Section 36 of the J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 read with Regulation 6 of J&K Municipal Corporation (Procedure and Conduct of Business) Regulations, 2005, notice is hereby given that the Election of Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Srinagar will be conducted as per the given schedule,” a notification copy, available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reads.

“Forms of Nomination Paper may be obtained from the office of the Secretary, Srinagar Municipal Corporation from 20th of November 2020 between the hours of Ten O’clock in the forenoon and Four O’clock in the afternoon,” it said.

“Nomination forms can be delivered to the Secretary, Srinagar Municipal Corporation between the hours of Ten O’clock in the forenoon and Four O’ clock in the afternoon not later than 21st of November 2020 by a Candidate or his Proposer,” it added.

“Notice of withdrawal of candidature be delivered by a candidate at any time by or before 25th of November 2020 before the election is proceeded within the meeting. In the event of election being contested, the poll will take place on 25th of November 2020 from 1100 hours onwards,” the notification added—(KNO)
