WGAJK welcomes Sports Ministry’s monetary support to Private Academies

Srinagar, November 16: Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WGAJK) has hailed Union Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry for extending monetary support to Private Academies, through the Khelo India Scheme over the next four years starting 2020-21.

While welcoming the “first-of-its-kind initiative”, President WGAJK Abass Wani termed the initiative as a historical decision and a move in the right direction.

The WGAJK called a meeting in this regard wherein the members of the association congratulated honorable Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mr. Kiren Rijiju for the initiative.

On the occasion, President WGAJK Abass Wani said: “The initiative of establishing 500 Private Academies will benefit the sports sector across the county and it will also give a much-needed impetus to the winter sports in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Wani reiterated that Mr. Kiren Rijiju is the most visionary Sports Minister India ever had.

It is pertinent to mention that honorable Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mr. Kiren Rijiju had proposed the initiative this year during Khelo India Winter Games at Gulmarg. He had also announced a School of Excellency for Gulmarg.

WGAJK has requested the Honorable Minister to consider the establishment of Ski and Snowboard Academy at Gulmarg to develop these sports at grassroots level.

Meanwhile, Secretary WGAJK Mohammad Yousuf welcomed and thanked honorable Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports for the initiative.
