Army organizes felicitation ceremony in memory of Mohd Maqbool Sherwani

Srinagar: Local Rashtriya Rifles Battalion of Dagger Gunners organizes a felicitation ceremony in memory of Shaheed Mohd Maqbool Sherwani, who had sacrificed his life in saving the Baramulla Town from Pakistani raiders & Kabalies in 1947-48 operations, at Sherwani Hall, said a defense spokesperson on Saturday.

The felicitation ceremony was organized under the aegis of Dagger Division with an aim to instill sense of nationalism amongst the youth and Awam of Baramulla,” the spokesperson said

“The event commenced with opening speech by Abid Salam War, Chairman, Let’s Reach Foundation followed by a small video clip showcasing the Saga of valour of the Lion of Baramulla,” he said.

“Later on, Tauseef Raina invited Maj Gen Virendra Vats, GOC Dagger Division, who addressed the audience & highlighted the importance of resistance given by Shaheed Mohd Maqbool Sherwani till the time the troops of 1 SIKH (now 4 MECH INF) reached and saved the Baramulla town. GOC also emphasized on revival of legacy of Shaheed Mohd Maqbool Sherwani by the present youth of Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.

He further said: “Maj Gen Virendra Vats then felicitated family members of Shaheed Mohd Maqbool Sherwani by presenting Shawl and gifts as token of gratitude and appreciation, who in turn expressed their humility and thanked the Indian Army for remembering the sacrifice of Shaheed Mohd Maqbool Sherwani.”

“Towards the end, GOC interacted with all the guests and other prominent personalities of town from Municipal Corporation & Panchayats over tea. Awam present during the felicitation ceremony appreciated the event as it will go a long way in recognition of the sacrifices of real Martyrs of Kashmir as also educate the younger generation about the same,” he added.
