Final match of inter-village volleyball tournament played at Churanda Uri

Uri (Churanda): The final match of inter-village volleyball tournament was played in frontier village Churanda Uri along the line of control (LOC) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In the final match, Thajal-A, defeated Churanda-A by 3-0.

The volleyball match was played in the premises of Government Middle School Churanda.

The tournament, in which several teams from adjoining villages of area took part, was organised by Army’s 21 Kumaon regiment of Pir Panjal Brigrade Uri.

Interestingly, people living close to both sides of Line of Control were enthralled and jubilant as they watched the sports event from their rooftops, while few who are living very close to LOC watched the event from a very close range.

Chief Guest Lt Col J D Samuel 2IC 21 Kumaon regiment who was flanked by Major Rajiv Srichandan said, “The inter-village volleyball tourney was organised in Churanda on LoC to bring back happiness and cheer on the faces of fear stricken people as they face burnt of cross border shelling.”

“We organise such sports event in the village with the help of local people of the area,” he added.

Sarpanch of the area, Churanda Lal Din Khatana, said that it is for first time when such a tournament was held in the frontier village as people here frequently face burnt of cross border firing and shelling.
