Woman’s death triggers protest at private hospital

Srinagar: Protests broke out at a private hospital in Magarmal Bagh area of the city Wednesday following the death of a woman patient due to alleged negligence of doctors during the preceding night.

Witnesses told ‘Kashmir Images’ that 45-years-old women from Danderkhah Batamalloo died during surgery at Shifa Hospital at Magarmal Bagh here. The deceased woman was identified as Shahzada Bano, who according to her relatives “died due to the negligence of doctors”.

Witnesses said the angry relatives of the deceased woman besides beating the hospital staff, ransacked property there following police was called in who lobbed tear-smoke shells and to disperse the angry mob.

The patient, according to her relatives, was admitted in the hospital after being advised to undergo surgery for gallstones. They said the deceased died during surgery performed by one Dr Bilal Khan.

“We can only blame hospital administration whose negligence led to her death. It is a routine surgery and I think our relative was the first patient who died during gallstone surgery,” said one of the relatives of the deceased.
