‘My Town My Pride’: Dev of towns, SWM our top priority, says Dheeraj Gupta

GANDERBAL : In view of “My Town My Pride” programme aiming at reaching out to the people at their doorsteps to ensure on spot redressal of their issues and grievances, Principal Secretary Housing & Urban Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta today visited Ganderbal where he took stock of public grievances.

District development Commissioner, Ganderbal Shafqat Iqbal, SSP Ganderbal, ADC Ganderbal, President Municipal Council Ganderbal, ACR Ganderbal, CPO Ganderbal, EO Municipality, District Officers were present on the occassion. Besides Councilors and large number of local people of the town also participated in the programme.

During the camp the Principal Secretary was apprised by the Councilors and locals with series of demands ranging from augmentation of power and water supply, drainage and sanitation, better health facilities, shifting of COVID Centre from District Hospital, establishment of District Library, road widening, expansion of Municipal Council, repairing of roads, beautification of Sindh Nallah, augmentation of development works at Bus Stand and many more. They also sought his intervention for the early redressal of the same.

The Principal Secretary interacted with the people and said that the main focus of the government is beautification of the towns and Solid Waste Management (SWM) is on top priority. In this regard installation of street lights besides converting open spaces within the town into parks, play grounds and open gymnasiums will be ensured, he added.

The DDC handed over the papers of identified land for the establishment of Solid waste management plant to the Principal Secretary who assured that the plant shall be completed within 6 months and in this regard necessary instructions are already given to the Municipal Council Ganderbal, he added.

While replying the issues, the Principal Secretary said that “My Town My Pride” is an initiative to further empower and strengthen the framework of the Urban Local Bodies and to serve the people with accountable and participatory governance, and to ensure service delivery at doorsteps, he added.

The DDC also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of program in ensuring sustained and synchronized efforts to remove bottlenecks and identifying the gaps for sustainable development of town and appealed to people to be part of the decision making process and decide about utilization of funds meant for development of their wards by participating in ward meetings during the said programme and prioritize works for implementation in the ensuing season.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary inspected the stalls which were installed by the line Departments who had formulated detailed report of the government schemes of their respective departments which they showcased for awareness of the general public.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary handed over cheques to the beneficiaries under PMAY (Urban), Driving Licenses, wheel chairs, Domicile and Income certificates besides handed over sports kits among the students at Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School Ganderbal.

Later, He also laid foundation stone of several developmental works including Terminal building and 2 passenger sheds at New Bus Adda, construction of Children Park at Beehama and Fathepora and installation of Clock Tower at Duderhama Chowk.
