Srinagar: A militant was killed in an encounter in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Monday, police said.
His identity is being ascertained, they said.
Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Melhura in Zainapora this evening following information about presence of militants. The search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire at security forces, a police official said.
Details were awaited, he added.
Some unconfirmed reports said that another militant too was killed during the encounter. However, the body has not been retrieved.
Meanwhile, a CRPF personnel was injured in a militant attack on security forces party in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Monday, police said.
The militants opened fire on a joint naka party of police and CRPF at Gangoo in Pulwama district, a police official said.
The injured CRPF personnel has been hospitalised.
Further details of the incident are awaited, the official said.
