Srinagar: District Court Shopian on Tuesday sent two persons arrested by police in connection with the Ashmipora Shopian fake encounter case into judicial remand for eight days.

Accepting the complicity of its troops in the alleged fake encounter at Ashmipora Shopian in which three labourers from Rajouri were killed on July 18 and dubbed as militants, Army had said it appears prima facie that the powers under AFSAPA had been exceeded. Police also confirmed that the DNA tests of the three slain youth had matched with their relatives in Rajouri.

As per sources, the two arrested persons connected to the case are “local collaborators” who have been detained by the police on the charges of “criminal conspiracy” under relevant sections (case FIR no. 42/2020).

Both the arrested persons are going through further questioning to reveal the chain of events that led to cold-blooded murder of three labourers from Rajouri who were later dubbed as militants.
