Srinagar: An alleged Over Ground Worker (OGW) of a militant outfit was arrested and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from his possession during nocturnal raid at Diyarwani locality of Batamaloo in the city here Tuesday.

A police official said that a joint team of police and paramilitary CRPF, on a tipoff, conducted raid at Diyarwani area in Batamaloo during the preceding night.

“An OGW was arrested during the raid and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from his possession,” the police official said. He identified the youth as 20-years-old Tufail Ahmad Bhat of Diyarwani Batamaloo.

A formal case in this regard was registered and investigation set into motion to ascertain his role in militancy-related activities, he added.

It may be in place to mention that three militants were killed during an encounter with government forces in Batamaloo area on 18th of this month. A civilian woman identified as Kounsar Riyaz (45) also lost her life during the encounter.
