CRPF man killed in Chadoora militant attack, rifle snatched

Srinagar: An Al-Badr militant was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Machoma Tral area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thrusday.

A senior police officer said that in the initial exchange of fire one militant of Al-Badr identified as Irfan Ahmad Dar, resident of Gadikal, was killed. He had joined the outfit on 20th August this year.

The police officer further said that a civilian was brought to the encounter site to persuade the hiding militant to surrender, but he refused.

Reports said the gunfight broke out after a joint team of police and Army’s 42 RR launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Machoma Tral.

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper was also killed and his rifle snatched after militants attacked the force in Keisarmulla area of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district today.

A senior police officer was quoted by news agency GNS as saying that militants attacked a CRPF party in Keisarmulla, injuring one CRPF trooper. Before escaping from the spot, the militants also managed to snatch the injured trooper’s rifle.

The injured trooper was shifted to Army’s 92 base hospital for specialized treatment, the officer said.

Quoting a CRPF spokesman, Pankaj Singh, news agency KNO said that the trooper identified as N Badolay from Nagpur, who was injured in the militant attack succumbed. “His rifle is missing as well,” Singh told the news agency.

Following the attack, the whole area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, another gunfight broke out between the militants and security forces in Sirhama area of Anantnag district of south Kashmir.

A police spokesman said on Twitter that the gunfight broke out in Sirhama after a joint team of police, Army’s 3 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation there.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.

Details of this encounter were awaited while this report was being written.
