Sarmad visits Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall, Water Sports Center

SRINAGAR : Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez took stock of progress of sports infrastructure and other development works at Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall Polo Ground and Water Sports Center Nehru Park here today.

During his visit to Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall Polo Ground, Sarmad Hafeez inspected various sections of the sports facility and had on spot stock of several ongoing works there.

He directed the concerned executing agency to speed up the remaining works at the sports hall so that the facility would be dedicated to the sports persons and other players at the earliest.

On the occasion, the Secretary was informed that the sports hall will relieve burden of Srinagar’s lone Indoor Stadium and will have facilities for playing many indoor games like Judo, Badminton, Martial Arts, Table Tennis etc.

The Indoor hall is being executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council at a total cost of Rs five crore and will house all the international level sports facilities for the players here.

Sarmad also inspected the nearby Football and Hockey fields and was told that synthetic turfs are being laid at Hockey field and other renovation works would be executed soon for Football field as well.

He directed the concerned executing agency to preserve the aesthetic environs around the hall which also houses Football, Hockey and Rugby fields besides maintaining the surroundings of the Sports hall.

Later, the Secretary also inspected the Water Sports Center at Nehru Park where he took stock of the renovation works and inspected different sections of the sports facility there.

He inspected the proposed spot for floating jetty and rowing room meant for stationing rowing boats besides other ongoing renovation works of the water sports centre.

The Secretary directed the concerned officials to speed up the ongoing works at the centre so that the facility could be dedicated to sports persons at the earliest and water sports activities can be started at the centre.

Sarmad Hafeez was accompanied by Secretary J&K Sports Council, Naseem Choudhary; international water sports coach, Bilquis Mir and other concerned officials of the department.
