Admin committed to develop sports infrastructure: DC B’la

BARAMULLA : Reiterating upon the administration’s commitment to develop sports infrastructure to channelise the potential of youth, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo said that various initiatives are being taken in this regard.

DC made these remarks during the final of a cricket tournament at Seer Jagir Sopore where he was invited as the chief guest.

The tournament that witnessed the participation of 32 teams was organised by District Youth Services and Sports in collaboration with district administration Baramulla, and the final match was played between Nowpora 11 and Kashur 11, Nowpora 11 was adjudged victorious.

On the occasion, the DC said that various sports activities are being organised to resume sports culture that were halted due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

DC also said that sports have a positive and constructive role in our social and psychological development adding that such events enable our youth to divert their attention towards positive pursuits.

He said that there is a need to provide appropriate platforms so that the potential of our youth is channelised in a better way

Meanwhile, DC gave cash awards out of his own pocket to the best performing players besides other awards that were given to the winners.

He also distributed various sports items among the teams emphasising that youth empowerment has been priority of the administration and informed that, in the upcoming ‘Back to Village- Phase 3’ special focus shall be given towards redressal of issues and grievances that our youth is largely facing.
