Army pays tributes to slain soldier

Srinagar: Army today paid tributes to Late Gunner Bhupender, who was killed in Pakistani fire on 05 Sep 2020 along LoC in north Kashmir.

In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen BS Raju, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the braveheart on behalf of the proud nation, a defence spokesman said in a statement issued here.

“Late Gunner Bhupender was directing own retaliatory fire from a forward post on the Line of Control in Naugam Sector of Kupwara District, in response to unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan. Late Gunner Bhupender laid down his life in the line of duty as a result of a direct hit by enemy fire and succumbed to his injuries,” the spokesman said.

Late Gunner Bhupender was 23 years old and had joined the Army on 26 Dec 2015. He belonged to Village Bass (Ranila) of Charkidadri Tehsil, Bhiwani District in Haryana and is survived by his wife, Smt Rekha and a son, said the spokesman.

He further said that the slain soldier was enrolled into the Artillery Regimental Centre and after completion of his training, joined his parent unit 327 Med Regt, where he displayed his mettle by doing extremely well in his trade work and all fields. This brave son of the soil displayed immense physical & mental strength in the face of the enemy.

The mortal remains of Late Gunner Bhupender were taken for last rites to his native place.
