Murder case registered against 16; five accused arrested
Jammu: A government school headmaster was killed on Sunday during a scuffle with his neighbours over a land dispute in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, police said.
Mohammad Younis, 52, was hit on the head during the scuffle at village Qasba, they said.
Police have registered a case and against sixteen persons and arrested five of them on the charges of the murder.
Police said the incident took place on Sunday morning, when the deceased was working in his fields and attacked by some of his neighbours over some land dispute issue.
“The man was reportedly beaten up and he died on the spot,” police officials said, adding that soon after receiving the information, police teams rushed to the spot.
“The body was shifted to a local hospital where post mortem examination was conducted,” they said.
A senior police officer said that sixteen persons of the area have been booked for murder of the man and so far five of the accused have been arrested while eleven others are absconding and raids are being conducted to nab them.
The body was handed over to his family for last rites after completion of legal formalities, the police said.
