President WGAJK, Abass Wani, said that the demise of Fareed Hussain Kashmiri has saddened the entire winter sports fraternity. “May his soul rest in peace,” prayed Wani.

Muhammad Yusuf, Gen Secretary WGAJK informed that Fareed Hussain Kashmiri retired from Tourism Department as Deputy Director. He hailed from Kishtwar.

“Fareed was my best ski teacher. He was a great slalom racer of his time. His hut was situated atop erstwhile, Rope Tow lift in late 1970s. His hut no 185 was also known as Recovery Hut because all the injured skiers were given first aid in that hut, which unfortunately gutted in devastated fire. The ski slope was then named as 85 slope,” said Yusuf.

The WGAJK recommends that the slope be named after Fareed Hussain Kashmiri, who was a kind, honest, simple and a dedicated teacher.
