Provide adequate compensation to flash flood victims of Jammu: Tarigami

Jammu : While expressing anguish over the loss of lives and property due to flash floods, CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday urged the J&K administration to provide adequate compensation to farmers whose crops were damaged due to floods in parts of the Jammu region.

In a statement issued here today, Tarigami said that the recent rains and flash floods in parts of Jammu region have damaged the standing crops, and the government must depute teams to assess the losses immediately. The hard toil of farmers stand ruined and they have nothing to look for, except assistance from the Government. The concerned departments must release immediate preliminary relief in terms of free rations and financial assistance in favor of the victims till a survey is conducted to ascertain the actual losses.

“There are reports of cattle sheds and Kucha houses of nomads having collapsed in Poonch and Rajouri districts due to continuous rains. Agriculture land has been washed away due to flash floods at several places while landslides have damaged orchids. Some commercial and private vehicles have also been damaged due to the landslides caused by heavy rains,” he said.

He asked the concerned departments to gear up and prepare a proper loss assessment report so that those who have suffered losses are compensated fully.
