Baramulla, Aug 18: A third militant was killed on Tuesday in the operation by security forces in Baramulla district of north Kashmir which began after the militants shot dead two CRPF personnel a policeman on Monday, officials said.

Another of the two Army soldiers, who were injured on Monday in the encounter at Kreeri area of the north Kashmir district, also succumbed to injuries today, they said. One Army soldier had succumbed yesterday.

With these deaths, the encounter has thus far claimed eight lives – that of three militants, two CRPF personnel, one SPO, and two Army soldiers.

A top police official said that after night-long lull, firing resumed in Kreeri encounter site early on Tuesday morning. The militant who was hiding in a hideout was killed when an IED were used to blast it, he said

“One more militant likely to be Pakistani named Osman was killed. He was hiding inside a hideout which was blasted by using IED,” he said adding the search operation is still going on.

On Monday, militants had attacked a ‘naka’ party of security forces killing two CRPF personnel and an SPO.  Security forces had chased the militants after the attack, and killed two of them including Sajad Haider — a top commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit in north Kashmir. Another militant was also killed on the second day of the operation, the officials said.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter, officials said.
