Covid-19: Tally of positive cases crosses 27,000; 11 deaths reported

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir’s COVID-19 tally climbed to 27,489 on Friday with 540 fresh cases, while the death toll rose to 520 as 11 more people succumbed to the contagious disease in the union territory, officials said.

All 11 deaths were reported from the Kashmir Valley, they said.

Of the fresh cases, 421 were reported from Kashmir and 119 from Jammu, the officials said.

With these, the total number of infected people in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 27,489, they said.

Srinagar district in central Kashmir recorded the maximum number of fresh COVID-19 cases at 108, followed by 67 in Jammu district, they added.

There are now 7,027 active cases in the union territory, while 19,942 patients have recovered from the infection, according to the officials.

The cases detected on Friday include 60 people who had returned to the union territory recently.

“Eleven people, who were COVID-19 positive, have died over the past 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir,” the officials said.

With the latest fatalities, the toll due to the disease in the union territory has risen to 520, they said.

Of the total deaths, 481 are from Kashmir and 39 from Jammu, they said.
