Bandipora: Three persons have been arrested for running a “militant financing module” in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rahul Malik said that the trio was running a “militant financing module” in north Kashmir and belonged to different areas of Kupwara, Sopore and Bandipora district.

“The trio had a specific modus operandi under which they operated,” Malik said.

He said they would sell properties for money which was then used for carrying out militant activities.

“The money was used for buying weapons and other logistic support of militants; also the money would be even used to fund recruiters and motivators,” he said.

SSP said that around Rs 14 lakh was transferred from an account from which Rs 5 lakh were recovered while the rest of the money has been used in “supporting militant activities”.

He said that the “trio was operational in north Kashmir as of now while the investigation was on and some more people are likely involved in the case.”

FIR no, 29/2020 U/s 17-39-40 ULA(P) act has been registered in Police Station Aragam, the police said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Maqbool of Chittibanday Bandipora; Junaid Ahmad Wani, son of Bashir Ahmad Wani of Nageen Bagh Krankshivan Colony Sopore, and Raj Mohammad Khan of Kikar Fever, Lolab, Kupwara.

LeT militant arrested in Hajin

Srinagar: A Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was arrested by security forces in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday.

News agency GNS quoted official sources as saying that a joint team of Army’s 13RR and police arrested a LeT militant identified as Jehangir alais Aqib alais Jana, resident of Kralgund, Handwara.

He had joined the LeT outfit on 27th June, the official said.
